Frequently Asked Questions
We know how nerve wracking it can be going to a swingers club for the first time - we were new to the scene once upon a time (see Barry's Book Page)!
Even if you've been to a club before, you can never be sure what awaits you at a new venue. For this reason, we've tried to answer the most common questions on this page. We also recommend that you check out our facilities, and take the tour to get a feel for the type of venue you'll find when you get here.
If you have a question which is not answered here please get in touch via our Feed Back Page and we will reply as soon as possible! Single Guy ? We recommend that you click here to read the La Chambre Guide For Single Guys.
If you would like to discuss any fears or nervousness (particularly if you've never been to a venue like La Chambre) please don't hesitate to contact us. Our male and female members of staff are trained to help you and answer any questions you may have.
Q |
Is It Legal ? |
A |
Yes. La Chambre is a Members Only club to which access is strictly restricted by Membership Card. No one is admitted to the club unless we have identification which proves their age and members of the general public are not permitted entry under any circumstances.
We have been open for a little under four years and have appeared in many television programmes and news articles; something we couldn't do if we were not 100% legal. We hold all the correct licenses for alcohol and entertainments and are regularly inspected by the Fire Service and Health & Safety Executive. |

Q |
What is the Dress Code ? |
A |
We don't allow jeans, t-shirts, or trainers in the club and we ask that all members "Dress to Impress". We'll clarify that a little by saying that we expect gentlemen to be as smart as possible (trousers, smart shoes, and a shirt is fine) and ladies should dress as sexily as they feel comfortable with. La Chambre has a reputation for smart sexiness and we'd like to maintain it; an evening at La Chambre is not a night out at the pub!
You should note that DV8 Night has it's own dress code. Please see the DV8 Page for more information.
We would also like to ask you to cover up when coming to the club. If you do want to wear something that members of the public could find offensive please wear a long coat until you are in the building - we don't want to upset our neighbours! |
| |
|
Q |
Do we have to strip off ? |
A |
Absolutely not. La Chambre is about exercising your individual right to choose. It's rare to see completely naked people in the downstairs lounge and a lot of people simply wear a towel. We do ask that you don't go into the Play Rooms fully clothed but bra and panties is fine - as long as you are comfortable we are happy. |
| |
|
Q |
Can I bring my own drinks ? |
A |
No. There are several reasons for this and we'd like to explain them here. Firstly, we have our own bar and we'd like you to use it! Secondly, and almost as importantly is that when our staff serve you they will be looking out for your interests. It's easy in an excited, nervous state to get carried away and have to much to drink. This is especially the case on Friday nights when we want to make sure that single guys don't get plastered and create a nuisance of themselves. Please respect this as it really does help us to maintain a pleasant ambience in the club and our bar prices are low - typically pub prices or less (see the Prices page for more examples). |

|
Q |
Can I smoke on the premises ? |
A |
Of course. Smoking is permitted anywhere on the ground floor, in the wet areas and in the dungeon. However, upstairs is a "NO SMOKING ZONE" and no smoking is permitted in any of the playrooms; this is to ensure the safety and comfort of our guests. Be warned: if we catch you smoking upstairs you WILL be asked to leave and your membership cancelled. |

|
Q |
Will others come onto us as soon as we walk through the door and will we be expected to have sex with others on the night? |
A |
NO and NO. This is perhaps the most commonly asked question and we'd like to assure you that it just doesn't happen that way. The members of La Chambre understand that a key component of our lifestyle is the ability and willingness not only to explore our own limitations but also to respect and cherish the limitations of others. Most couples sit and chat in one of our lounges and will go upstairs or into the pool to play when the mood is right. Some couples like to be watched and won't approach you, and some couples simply come to the club to socialise and make friends.
La Chambre have never, is not, and never will be a "meat market". Even in the hottest areas of the club no-one will pester you into doing anything you are not 100% comfortable with. We also encourage appropriate behaviour from our single members and expect them to adhere to the Advice for Single Guys - even on a Friday Party night the ladies and couples will not be pestered. |

|
Q |
Can We Say NO? |
A |
Absolutely. Again, our members recognise that in order for the experience to be worth anything it has to be by mutual consent. Our lifestyle choice is not about forcing ourselves on others but exploring TOGETHER. The word NO is important at La Chambre (to the point where it's written into our Club Rules) and no-one will be offended if you say it. After all, we were all new once, we've all been nervous, and (quite frankly) we've all met people we simply don't fancy. Using the word NO is important and our members will respect you more for using it than simply going along with something you are not comfortable with.
Whilst we are on the subject, on a Friday Night when single guys are allowed into the club, the LADIES are in charge and have final say. Again, the guys understand this and will not take offence if a lady exercises her right to say NO. |

|
Q |
Does La Chambre allow Single Guys to be members? |
A |
Yes. Although many clubs do not allow single guys to join, at La Chambre we have an open and equal membership policy. However, single guys are only permitted into the club on Friday Party Nights (Saturday is reserved for Strictly Couples Only) and they are expected to read this before we let them in for the first time. |

Q |
Does La Chambre allow Single Girls to be members? |
A |
Oh don't be silly! Of course we do! |
| |
|
Q |
We are a threesome - would we all be allowed in on Saturday night? |
A |
No - sorry. Although we recognise that there are couples out there who have a regular single partner, we cannot allow entry on a Saturday Night as this would create an imbalance. You are, however, more than welcome to join us on a Friday Night. |
| |
|
Q |
How many Members are there? |
A |
At the time of writing we have almost four thousand couples and over two thousand, five hundred single guys and girls. On Saturday party nights we usually see around 70 couples and on Friday from 25 couples and 30 to 40 single girls and guys.
Facts and figures can sometimes be misleading. We heard of a club who were quoting a membership of around nine thousand; all well and good if it's true but nine thousand names on a database don't mean a thing unless they all turn up at the club on a regular basis. La Chambre has the names of over fifteen thousand people who have enquired over the last four years but to quote that as our membership figure would be, frankly, ridiculous.
The actual membership at the time of writing stands at 2,500 singles and almost 4,000 couples but even these figures are deceiving as only 2,000 singles and 3,500 couples are active members. That is to say that they actually attend the club regularly - the others have let their membership lapse, moved house, gone abroad, moved off the scene, or simply lost the will to live! So, membership statistics may not be all they seem to be but one thing is for sure - our membership is growing every week and so there will always be new faces around.
We don't artificially inflate our membership figures - we don't have to. |
| |
|
Q |
What's the average age of club members? |
A |
Our oldest members are in their sixties and our youngest are nineteen so it spans the whole range. On an average evening the majority are around their mid-thirties. Please note that people under the age of 18 will not be admitted under any circumstances. |
| |
|
Q |
What sort of people join the club? |
A |
What sort of people shop at your local supermarket? It's the same sort of question and just as difficult to answer! Our members come from all walks of life and include professional business people, manual workers, students, and the unemployed. Our members are rich, poor, fat, thin, southern, northern, black, white, yellow, and we're sure that an alien will join us eventually! La Chambre (and its' members) are inclusive, highly tolerant of others, and recognise that it isn't what you are that is important; it's who you are. As one of our members is fond of saying - "We're all the same sat naked in the pool". |
| |
|
Q |
Do we need to bring a towel? |
A |
YES. Even if you aren't planning on using any of the facilities in our wet areas, you'll probably still want to have a shower before you leave. |
| |
|
Q |
Do I have to give you my address? |
A |
Yes. La Chambre is a MEMBERS ONLY club and it is important that we can verify that you are who you say you are. We NEVER pass your details onto third parties and we operate a very strict privacy policy which you can read here. You will be required to produce identification on your first visit. |
| |
|
Q |
Will you write to me at home? |
A |
We realise that many of the couples who come to the club and join as a couple may not be in a conventional relationship and that one or both of them may have regular partners or be married. We are completely non-judgemental and if this is how they choose to live then that is entirely up to them. We also realise that if we send printed information to a home address we run the risk of possibly causing some serious hurt.
When you join La Chambre we ask you on your application form if you want to receive mail from us - for example, copies of our newsletters and agendas. If you say no then we will NEVER send ANYTHING to your home address - full stop - ever. We have a series of safeguards in place to make sure that this aspect of our operations is carefully controlled.
For those members who don't want to receive material at home we always have spare copies of our newsletters and agendas on hand at the club. Feel free to ask for your copy when you get here. You can, of course, also check the latest Agenda here at La Chambre Online - click here for our What's On Section.
You can also ask us to hold your email address on file - we are planning to send information by email in the future to those members who prefer it. Ask at Reception for more information. |

|
Q |
When are you open? |
A |
We have regular party nights every Friday and Saturday with DV8 Nights on the third Thursday of every month. Please see our Events Calendar for more information. |
| |
|
Q |
We are travelling a long way. Where can we stay? |
A |
Although La Chambre does not recommend specific local hotels you can view a brief list of some of the most popular local accommodation by clicking here. |
| |
|
Q |
How do we start? |
A |
Go up to someone and say Hello - it works for us! |
| |
|
Q |
Are condoms available? Are they free? |
A |
Yes and No. We have a condom vending machine in the changing room downstairs. We don't supply free condoms as otherwise we'd be refilling the machine every five minutes! In the interests of safe sex and mutual respect we encourage the use of condoms at all times. |
